A third year B-Tech student of a private engineering college in Odisha was found dead in her hostel.She was a student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).
The deceased girl has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal of Nepal. Although the exact cause of her death has not been confirmed, preliminary investigations suggest that she committed suicide. It is said that a male friend, a third-year mechanical engineering student of the same university, put mental pressure on her.
According to sources, Prakriti had complained about the matter to the university’s International Relations Office (IRO), but no concrete action was taken. An audio recording has recently surfaced, in which the accused student can be heard abusing her using profanity.
After the incident, university students have demonstrated demanding justice. They protested the negligence of the university administration and demanded action against the culprits.
“The police have sealed the room of the deceased teenager and the body has been kept in the mortuary till her parents’ arrival,” said a university official.
